If your warehouse or office building were to experience a sudden water damage from a burst water main, would your employees know what to do?

Make a Plan!

The first step to creating a plan would be to ask yourself some basic questions. For example, would your employees know what to do? Does anyone know where the water main shut off is?  Is there an evacuation plan and do all of the employees know it? Start from these questions to begin putting together a safety plan. The plan should compose of 3 parts: first the safety of everyone, second a set of procedures to follow, and third how to carry on with business to avoid a disruption in cash flow.

Here is a list of important things to include in your plan:

  • An emergency contact list (also accessible from off-site)
  • Emergency procedures
  • Emergency staffing instructions
  • Vendor lists and contact info
  • Data backup plans and other resources to support business operations in case you have to temporarily or permanently relocate your business operations
